Bed and Breakfast and Gîtes with Pool - Le Mas des Sages
We are Esther and Philippe, a French-Swedish-Dutch couple settled in the Gard since 2002. Before settling here, we lived in the Paris region, the United States, and Africa. We fell in love with the Uzège and the Gard department, and had a coup de coeur for the village of Aubussargues and the farmhouse that became our family home. After years of renovation, we opened our bed and breakfast in 2009. More than twelve years later, we still take great pleasure in welcoming you and helping you discover the beautiful region of Pays d'Uzès Pont du Gard.
Bed and Breakfast with Pool and Garden
Our bed and breakfast with a pool and garden is located 8 km from Uzès, in the heart of Aubussargues. This charming village, surrounded by vineyards, forests, and garrigues, offers numerous hiking and mountain biking trails. From our home, you can easily explore the Pays d'Uzès, the Gard, the Hérault, and the Vaucluse. The region is full of discoveries and activities for all seasons, and we are happy to advise and inspire you.
Stay and Dining
If you stay in a bed and breakfast room, you can dine with us while enjoying a glass of local wine or order a picnic basket for lunch with fresh, seasonal products, to be reserved two days in advance. You can find more information on our Table d'Hôtes page.
History of Le Mas des Sages
Le Mas des Sages is an old farmhouse dating from the second half of the 18th century. Over the centuries, this farmhouse has been a farm with horses, sheep, and chickens, a vineyard, and a silkworm nursery. Then it became a family home, and now a bed and breakfast. We were told that in the 19th century, the owner of the farmhouse and his neighbor and friend left Aubussargues on horseback, dagger at their sides, for Smyrna, now called Izmir. With mildew attacking the vines, they needed to find a solution to support their families, and they went to Turkey to bring back silkworms. Several parts of the farmhouse were converted into silkworm nurseries. Our gîte for 4 people is actually housed in one of these nurseries.
On the balcony railing of the inner courtyard, you can still see the initials of this adventurer in wrought iron, a nice nod to a distant era. From the viticultural period, there are also some remains, such as the large wine tank under the shelter in the garden. And from the farm, the sheepfold where you can still see the troughs.
Despite the farmhouse's age of almost three centuries, we are only the third owners, and we have strived to preserve as much as possible the heritage and spirit of the eras this building has witnessed. We hope you will love our home, its authenticity, and its atmosphere as much as we do!
Activities and Discoveries Nearby
There are numerous hiking trails in the vicinity, including the Gorges du Gardon, and you can also go for walks or mountain biking directly from our home. The Gardon and Cèze rivers offer water activities such as canoeing and via ferrata, and of course, swimming. Between equestrian centers, manades, golf courses, wineries, good restaurants or gastronomy, the Pont du Gard, the Uzès market, the Haribo candy museum, the arenas and other Roman monuments of Nîmes and Arles, the Palais des Papes in Avignon, the ferias, the local festivals, the festivals, and so much more, there is something to delight everyone.
In good weather, which we often have, you can enjoy the garden and relax. Or swim and lounge by the pool, open from May to October, weather permitting.
